First Post

I have been spending time reading Jon Acuff lately.  Last year I read his book Quitter, and I am currently half-way through Start.  The themes and ideas in these books are helpful to me as I work through some recurring themes and ideas in my mind.  Donald Miller’s website has been extremely helpful as well, giving me some direction as to the story (stories) I am supposed to share with the world.

In Quitter Acuff suggests, “90 percent perfect and shared with the world always changes more lives than 100 percent perfect and stuck in your head.”  In Start his words, “Just start.” jumped out of the Kindle page at me as I consider those stuck in my head ideas of mine needing to be shared with the world.  This is why I am here.

This is why I am starting to write again.  Years ago, I found I had an interest in writing, but over the years I have not pursued this interest with the greatest of intensity.  This website is a challenge for me to work on this craft to see if writing is something I want to pursue with passion on any level.  If nothing else I think the creative outlet in an area of interest will be nice and since I always write with an audience in mind I figure the option for others to read might as well be there.

The majority of this website’s content will be related to parenting.  Many years ago, probably eleven, I had an idea to write a book about fatherhood called I Am Not the World’s Greatest Dad.  The idea behind the title drives the idea behind this website and eventually (hopefully) the book, website, and other ideas will all tie together.  I’m still working on purpose, goals, and intent, but I figure those things are in the 10% and they will work themselves out as I begin again to write.  (In case you are wondering the book idea is very much alive, as most of the chapters sit finished in rough draft form.)

My plan is to post 6 days a week, taking a break on Sundays.  Content will revolve around matters related to parenting, marriage, and family.  Thank you for being with me as I start this journey, hopefully something you read will benefit you, although there are no guarantees.
